Downpipe... first pipe downstream from a turbocharger turbine outlet. Or something like that. Basically, the pipe that hooks the manifold to the first muffler/silencer.

the way I understand it:
on the Citi golfs the exhaust system consits of three parts, the manifold, the downpipe and the rear exhaust. manifold bolts to the head obviously, then the downpipe connects to the manifold via these highly annoying badly designed metal C clip looking things, this then curves under the body and the rear exhaust slides over this and clamps
an aftermarket branch would replace the manifold and downpipe.

Pretty much it. It's a pipe that connects the manifold to the exhaust. On a turbocharged car one pretty much thinks of the turbo as being part of the manifold assembly and the in this case the downpipe is just the connection between all that and the exhaust system.
