ks pistons Q?

Post by Dieter »

Hi guys

How many beating can a 2e/abf ks piston take? If the piston is to be used in a turbo application? and when there is some major milling done to them to clear the valves? I know people have done this, but I just want to make sure.

the area that the red line cover, is to be milled straight out , level with depth of the bowl. (notice the thin wall thickness about 2mm ) will that be fatal? or am I over reacting?

Thanx!

Just a note, the 2E (not sure of the ABF) has Mahle pistons as standard. They are semi-forged, and can handle quite a bit of abuse.

not all 2E's come with mahle pistons basically any 2.0 long block comes with a selection of either cast or forged crank and either mahle, nural or ks pistons. i have opened 2e's with a cast crank and ks pistons its just luck of the draw, all 60-2 motors accept abf and local long block mp9 2.0l had cast cranks. With pistons you heve to open to see what you have.

forgot to ad mahle and nural can take a lot of hammer ks also but not as much as the other two.

I think you gone recess too mutch it needs to be don on a angle and if you can see the recess on pick the arias is second and has small reces and first is a ks with small recess and 3rd nural but with too small reces and last is comby ks with resecc.hte first and 4th piston ks was in my car and did not hit with 7500rpm turbo.

I will be getting my comby pistons back friday and it's been recessed by a pro now so will tack pick and show what's enough,The bigest recess i have seen is on wiseco piston so go read sweetasour post of his car there are pistons in that i believe is wiseco or go see this month's speed and sound pg 194 the second piston from the left

Just make sure your fueling/timing and assembly is right, then you should not have troubles...and make 100% sure of your compression once you are done, measure it.

I have Std Pistons and conrods in my Jetta that also only have a small recess milled into the piston so the valves clear.

I have seen and heard of quite a few 2.0 16V Turbo motors that make 300Hp plus on Std pistons and rods, only precausion would be to use ARP bolts on the conrods and get the bottom end balanced. This is what I am getting done as I type this by Sarel on my Jettas motor. I'm hoping to get it running at +- 240Hp on 0.7Bar and to make +- 300Hp on +- 1.2Bar and Race fuel.
