Fan switch, where to get a lower temperature one?
Hello All
I bought a fan switch from Goldwagen and from VW (i have two), both switch on very late when the car is too hot. I would like to get hold of one that switches on early, like 95 degrees. According to the manual, the first stage should kick-in at 92 degrees and the second stage at 95 degrees. Someone mentioned the Pegeuot switch, does anyone know the one that will work on a Golf 3 GTS (1.8i), maybe part number.
Kind regards
Mabotse

Hello
Thanks for the reply. I ran the car until it was hot and i let it idle. Then i watched the temperature gauge rise to around 110 degrees and only then does the fan cut in. Tested the switches with a candle light as well, took too long for the fan to cut in even under candle heat. I got another switch from Midas, and this one the fan cut in at 105 degrees. The switches themselves indicate 102 degrees. The thermostat in the car is new, so is the pump. The problem realy starts when you get caught in traffic and slow driving on gravel roads in a hot Pietersburg.

Hi Mabotse, I had a problem with overheating. I fitted the Peugeot fan switch to my Mk1 about a month ago. The Ecklin manual states that this fan switch should switch on at 82 or 85 degrees celcius (can't remember which is correct).
Only thing is that it only has one stage ( 2 pins), dont know if it will work on a car that requires two stages. So now my fan activates sooner than before, just below half on the temp. gauge.

Hello
The part number and manufacturer are correct, wahler, but those on my car only switches the fan on when the temperature gauge in the reads 110 degrees. Infact, the one from the agents is also a wahler one and also kicks in when the gauge reads 110.
About the imported switches, iam interested, please include one for me if you can. I would like to have it before or on Friday because i have to travel to Pietersburg.
The Mk 1 switch will not do because, my car uses two stages, so the switch has to be correct for the car model.

Ok, I am a little bit stupid here.
What does it mean that the switch has two stages?
I thought it kicks in when the engine is hot and kicks off when the engine is at a acceptable temperature.
So is it normal for our Volkswagen engines to run hotter than other engines like Toyota? I also noticed that mine tends to kick the fan in very quickly and constantly when I hit traffic and always thought that it is bad for a car engine to run constantly hot.

Re: Fan switch, where to get a lower temperature one?
I recently installed a Peugeot fan switch that I purchased @ Autozone... It kicks in at the half way mark...

Hi Good Day
I trust that we are well.
Please kindly advise on the Peugeot switch, which prong is constant 12v power?

Re: Fan switch, where to get a lower temperature one?
I understand what you are getting at, however I would just like to know from this thread which pin is, one Pin has a marking with "3" on it and the other doesn't
