Cam bearing grooves on a crossflow head

Hi Guys, yesterday i bought a crossflow head that i plan to use with some ITB's , however when i removed the cam bearing caps i noticed the outer 2 looks to have been grooved, looks very symmetrical and in line with the oil port. Has anyone seen or heard of this before?Image
