Replacing 1.4l AGY engine with imported 1.6l AKL engine

Hi,

The existing engine on a Polo Playa needs a major overhaul and it might be cheaper to just replace it with an imported second hand engine. The most readily available engine seems to be the 1.6 liter AKL and I was wondering whether the AKL engine could be used to replace the original AGY engine? This engine swop is not for performance reasons but merely for cost.

Would one need to reflash the existing computer control unit or obtain a new one?

I have noted that the 1.6 liter AFX engine is probably more compatible and this forum has discussed successful swops from AGY to AFX but I have not come across an imported AFX engines yet.
