The lazy man's solution: 01134 - Alarm Horn (H12) - 004 - No Signal/Communication

Post by dhirennaidoo »

So, the SO's 6R Polo started sounding the alarm randomly. VCDS pulled up the following:

Code: Select all

01134 - Alarm Horn (H12)
		004 - No Signal/Communication
There are records of others having the same issue all over the web as well as here: viewtopic.php?f=11&t=214443&p=2631605&h ... n#p2631605 but most of them involve replacing the unit with a new or used one. As explained in Howie-WP's thread, the alarm siren has an on-board battery to allow the siren to sound even if the 12V battery is disconnected and it's usually this battery that leaks all over hte PCB, corroding tracks, etc.

As of this post, VW want about R4k for a new alarm siren unit. Used is way cheaper, but my reservation with that is being used, and sitting for a while without being charged, I would say the chances of history repeating itself are high. If you, like me, don't really have the patience for stripping the unit apart or getting a new one and fitting it, I did find a less elegant solution:

Untick Byte 8, Bit 7:

Untick Byte 5, Bit 6 (and Bit 4, if you don't want to get the crap scared out of you every time you unlock the car)

Congrats, you now have a Polo Vivo alarm. All locking beeps as well as alarm sounds will come from the hooter instead.

As mentioned above, this will remove the cars ability to sound the alarm if the battery is disconnected, so it is less secure. But really these days if someone wants your polo, it's gone. Just thought I would share this alternate solution for what seems to be a relatively common thing on our ageing Mk6 "era" cars.

Nice work! :hurray: That said, I am scared of the bit editor in VCDS ....(but that dates back to a GF.A! situation I had early in my IT career when a mis edited a bit to disable the entire Novell network bindary  :bang: :troll:  )

Awesome, this is very helpful. Thanks dude. Going to see if this works on the Amarok as well.

Well I usually save the entire long coding in a text file so I can restore it if I do cock something up. I'm also a bit scared of it, but having to fork out R4k will make you brave

I'm not sure if the Amarok would have the option because I don't think the Amarok ever used the hooter instead of the fancy siren. It's easy enough to check in VCDS though. Hope you come right. What year is your Amarok? Seems a bit soon for newer vehicles to be suffering from leaking batteries... I see in your sig it's a 2012. So is my SO's Polo. How time flies :fear:
