It's time to get the wife back into a VW for her daily
The i20 has been good to us but the consumption is not much better than a 2.0TDi
Looking at the early model Tiguan Highline 2.0TDI 4motion DSG
I know the 1.4TSI's loved blowing itself up.
Anything to look out for on the Diesel

Re: MK1 Tiguan Buying Advice
I would go for the facelift mk1 model.
Do you really need the quattro model if its just a replacement car for your wife? The fwd will be lighter on fuel also.

Re: MK1 Tiguan Buying Advice
I prefer the look of the pre-facelift to be honest. So if the facelift was esthetic only, I would rather look for a lower mileage gen1.
AWD is not important, would only mean we can use the car for weekends away to the mountains or to go to the farm.
Currently we have to use the Navara if we go out of town as the i20 is just not that comfortable at 120km/h
That being said, most of the 2.0 TDI DSG Highlines I do come across are 4motion

Re: MK1 Tiguan Buying Advice
I can't remember there being much that goes wrong with the MkI Tiguan, pre or post facelift, I am not a fan of DSG on non-performance cars after experiencing my fiance's Q3 but finding a manual Tiguan will prove difficult. I don't think you got any MKI Tiguan's with the 2.0 TDi engine that weren't 4Motion but they rarely give issues and I don't think the difference in fuel consumption between them and a FWD will be that significant.

Re: MK1 Tiguan Buying Advice
I've seen a couple of manual awd face lift models for sale.
These awd Tiguan's have the DQ500 dsq box, probably the best dsg box on the market. (pre vs post face lift have different gear levers)
The weight difference is easily 200kg from fwd to awd, so there should be a slight difference in real world consumption.
I'm also in the market for one and it has to be awd dsg.
