Polo 1.6 2004 9N strange issue

Hi. I have a Volkswagen Polo 2004 1.6 9N. My car only starts with clutch pedal engaged in 1st or 3rd gear. Wont start in Neutral or any other gear with Clutch in or out

Any ideas welcome

That's a hectic coincidence.

Does it crank but not start or does it not even crank?

It cranks and starts no problem. Drives as well although it shudders at little. Idling is good but randomly cuts out.

EPC light stays on until started.

Get it checked out at a mechanic. That's a really weird issue.

Epc light is meant to be on until engine starts.
