Hi Guys.

While driving the catalytic converter light came on. The car has been idling a bit rough with a rattling sound when i step on the accelerator. The car is also not breathing normally through the exhaust pipes. My question is do i need to replace the catalytic convert or can it be repaired also..at what cost is a new a converter.

A new Cat will cost in excess of R11K from VW.
And it cannot be repaired.

Much easier and cheaper to have the Cat removed and replaced with a straight bit of tubing or have a new downpipe fitted, then have Cat foolers installed so there are no error messages.

Sounds more like pinging. Could be a fuelling issue due to a failed lambda.

I'd suggest getting the car scanned and logged for faults

+1 of checking the error codes. That light can be triggered by a number if things
