Golf MkV Electrical Fault

Post by TSalie » Tue Oct 08, 2019 1:23 pm

Hi,

I've been experiencing some strange, what I think are electronic faults with my Golf 5 R32. Namely:
1) If i turn on the ignition, the PRNDS flashes on the screen and the DSG box is stuck in 1st. If I start the car immediately without turning ignition on and pausing, the problem disappears completely.
2) Recently the notification display would freeze. E.g. the display would continue to show no window washer fluid sign after the car is turned off and the key removed.
3) Sometimes by unlock button the the remote doesn't work. Does this for a few days and then it will start working again.
4) Can't open the boot. The emergency latch works. So, I purchased a new boot latch and fitted it and it still doesn't work. So suspect it's an electrical problem.

The problems seem to be increasing in variety and frequency. #1 is permanent though. Any ideas on what can be causing this?

Number 1 is mechatronic failure which is expensive to fix. Get a quote from the agents, then try http://www.vagbox.co.za/
Sorry, there goes your Xmas bonus and then some.

I had the mechatronic repaired previously. I spoke to a gearbox specialist at the time who told me that if the power dips to the mechatronic then this could cause the mechatronic ECU to be problematic which would result in the issue DSG box issue. The fact that if I start the car, the DGS box is fine, tends to support this theory. Hence, I think all these issues are related and not isolated issues.

Ok, has the car been scanned for errors?

It maybe something simple like a dying battery, loose earth strap, etc. Where are you based?

Check battery / earth issue? I'd try and check battery power on immediate start vs pause and then start.

I also had a PRNDS flashing issue on my Mk5 R32, and it turned out to be the shifter mechanism.
