Vibration in speaker housings

Post by Belix »

g'day
A lot of the enjoyment of the Dynaudio system in my car is destroyed by vibration of the speaker housing when playing certain songs - something I never had with the stock G6 system.
I'm not one for blasting my ears, so this happens even at the 1/2 volume levels and below I play at.
Different songs affect different doors.
The car is under warranty but I don't imagine I'm going to get much joy on this from VW techs.

I was thinking some dynamat stuck on the inside of the door panels might fix the issue, but have zero experience with dynamat. Would it help?

Could be caused by certain frequencies making either the speaker housings vibrate against the doors or the speakers themselves against the housings.

A buddy had a similar issue in his Passat.

We removed all speakers and speaker housings and put that thin sponge stuff with adhesive on one side (got it at Builders) around all the edges where the housings go against the doors and where the speakers sit on the housings.
Problem was solved.

Dynamat works beautifully. I did the whole Caddy with it and it cuts down road noise massively and improved the SQ by a huge amount.

Thanks R!
Annoyingly, getting time to do this lately is an issue. Is this something a decent audio installer would do?

Cool stuff.

A decent installer can do it, yes. But they might just charge you an arm or a leg. Or both including a kidney.
