Golf 6 R problems ?

Post by Jamie93 »

Hi all,

This is my first post and I thought probably the best place to put my concerns at ease. I am going to be purchasing a golf 6 R as my next vehicle, I have found a few candidates from dealerships all at 53 000 / 90 000 kms some are manual and some are dsg, would just like to hear any advice about purchasing a 6 R what potential issues could arise and is it safer to buy manual or dsg second hand... any tips will be appreciated really :)

Solid cars. Change the cam follower as soon as you get it. Make sure it has fsh, lots of stories of cars with mileage turned back. Also safest would be to get a stock one or if modded then from someone you know has maintained the car well. Very hard to get a manual, I would suggest an aftermarket warranty to cover motor and box.

Scumtree has a RB dsg one with 45 000km and the nice seats. May be worth a look.

Very good and solid cars.
There is one here on the forum that is running stage 3 Apr setup and making over 250kw very reliably hi PORRA and then there is another one which is still under the operating table and in due time will be completed Hi Ian.

So yes they are good cars with no fuss at all, just pay attention to the items mentioned by the guys here.

The Golf R (EA113 TFSI) is a great POS.

If you are looking for slow, horribly understeery, heavy on fuel car... Look no further!
The TFSi motor if treated well and serviced and maintained would be relatively bulletproof.

Known issues are:

Check and replace your cam follower often (Modded - 5000 - 7500 km check / Stock - 7500 - 10000 km check)
Motors with more mileage on them should have a carbon clean done. Intake valves are often caked with carbon due to the poor PCV design (Which fails often)
Ringland issues on the earlier CDL A/B motors.

There was a perfect white one on scumtree with the optional seats and DSG, for R350k (low mileage) which is a great buy.

If you are looking at buying one and modding it, dont...

Happy Golf R hunting

Do all the maintenance required and they solid cars. I have gone as far as doing a carbon clean on valves and injectors.

Great cars. Even fully modded like mine they reliable. My ED35 Manual is plenty of fun :driving:
