Problem with Turbo/Performance

Post by Shirazh »

Hi
I'm a owner of a golf 4 tdi aswell.Currently i'm having a problem with performance and i'm not sure if it relates to the turbo. I have recently done a major service at VW.When i drive at about 120-130km i can feel the mist on the car and then all of the sudden i loose power totally, like there's no turbo or something. Please assist on recomendations.

Thanks

I have very limited turbo diesel knowledge but my boss drives one and has had two problems. The first time there was a problem with the boost and it was a sensor in the air box that needed replacing. Apperently it gets damp and vw does a modification to the air box . It is a common problem on the earlier tdi or so the mechanic told him.

The second problem was total loss of power and after the mach said the turbo had failed it turned out it was a split boost pipe.

Hope this points you in the right direction .

yeh u talking about the MAF sensor in the airbox/intake. HATES water. Mine went a while ago.

It is a very common problem on the MK4 TDI's. U cant disconnect the MAf and see if she goes better, if she does then u know its that.
Otherwise u could get someone to run logs of the airflow. Mine was fine until the turbo really started boosting and then it just registered hardly any airflow and cut the boost right down.

Turbo....Look for change in the sound of the turbo while boosting.
