I looked at this when I had my 9N3. I was going to just get a complete rear axel from the scrap yard that has disc setups already. But the cost and effort was simply not worth it.

Its not a simple job if you don't have a lift. I can just imagine was a PITA removing the rear assembly will be on the ground. But if you a DIY master - don't see the issue. That is a good price - I was quoted 2500 for the rear setup off a smashed 9N3.

You will see no difference in braking. Will look cool but I personally don't think its worth it.

Not worth it IMO, rather get better pads/tyres in front.

I have installed a 2008 1.9tdi rear and front discs to my 1999 polo playa and was not big job, if yours is the 5 x 100mm pcd it might be a straight bolt on, even the handbrake cables fits on my polo, the bolt patern is 100% the same , most important is the mount plate to bolt the calipers to, that you have to cut from the rear axle from the 9n3,then you get 8x high tensile cup screws thats 10mm longer that the ones you take off your car, check out the installation on this http://www.carforums.co.za/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=26645

End of the day its your money and car - so do what makes you happy. It should be a straight swap. Just get a friend to help if you do it yourself.

ABS? need to bleed thru ecu( run abs pump via software)

I compared my brother's 1.4 polo sedan (drums) vs my 1.6 hatch(rear disks)
while both were on 14'' conti eco contacts for even results,
to me the pedal travel felt shorter & firmer on mine.

rear disks also look modern & cool......

If disks are fitted in the rear the ABS must operate that as well.

A friend of mine would like to do this, there is a Polo GTI being stripped for dirt cheap - His question is if he removes the disc and calipers with sensors only will the swap work, He is does not want to change the axle fearing it might be bent due to the car being accident damaged car.

Hell have to buy everything off that polo. Calipers, lines, handbreak cable, discs(if they’re still good), stub axle etc. the axle should be similar if not the same anyway. So his one will work.
