As topic title, I need some info on the Polo GTI DSG 'box please.
Maximum torque handling ability?
Any issues with the Mechatronics unit?
Oil change intervals and cost of oil?
Any and all info highly appreciated

Hey Ryan,
So, only issue i have is that its noisy... but this is apparently normal, as it a dry clutch...
Oil change interval is 60000km, and works out quite pricey apparently...
I really think it works well though...

Some guys mechatronics are failing constantly. Clutches do make noise, the oil for the box is pricey but it only takes 1L. Max torque 350 or so. Can't remember.

Also
ABT has recommended to a DSG filter & oil change every 30,000km / 18,000 miles...."

"...I guess VW under-rates the torque limit of its DSG boxes fr safety reasons as the one you (and soon I) have is the wet clutch DQ250 rated at
350Nm max torque..."
"The OEM DSG clutches have been known on the golf5 to easily handle 400hp and about 300nm(260 lbs), but have been pushed to 500hp and 550nm(405lbs) without issues.
If you are seeking over 600nm(440lbs), you can upgrade the clutch and get a DSG remap.
You should probably increase your DSG flush interval if you are pushing over 400nm..."

The G6 DSG 6spd is alot stronger and can handle more power and torque than the PGTI 7 spd. This is the reason the G7 DSG is still 6 speed. The 7spd DSG is okay for the small motor.

A bit off topic here... but there is also a 7 speed DSG in the Audi S5... and that is a V6 Supercharged with pleeenty of torque!
They should put that box in the G7

We talking 4 cyl, different ball game. The 7spd in the PGTI is no where as strong as the 6spd G6 GTi.
On another note, I'm alittle apprehensive on dsg sw as there has to be a trade off somewhere, long term safety? Longevity? Some guys swear by it,others said no difference and a waste of time and money.I should start a thread on that infact and get those experienced in using it and tuners to respond.

This is not a hijack but I think will aid this thread or Ryans thinking too. See here:

Thanks for the info so far guys!
Zubair, no probs. I would also like to see if any tuners respond to that thread.
Main reason for my asking about the DSG 'box is that I have plans to fit one to the Jetta
Madness? Definately. Will it be worth it? Faster gear changes than any manual 'box from VW. And I can get either a Polo GTI DSG 'box or a Mk5 GTI DSG 'box for really silly money, so was just asking about the Polo one as it is smaller and obviously lighter than the Mk5 one.
Also the whole Mechatronic issue on some of the Mk5 'boxes is worrying. How would I know if the Mechatronics unit is one of the replaced ones?

If it has the latest revision mechatronics it will be fine. I have no idea what the latest revision unit is.
I am a bit scared of the 7 speed DSG. It rattles, it's a dry clutch, no LC..and not as strong as the 6 speed.

Hey Ryan
There are quite a few DIY DSG oil service threads and videos available , I also read alot of the mechtronics issues seem to be related to insufficent oil services as VW seem to run a very long service life on the filter and oil
I really like my DSG but sometimes i really miss the manual for that involved feeling , but ja the shifts are awesome and i trully believe the motor will be happier
remember with DSG you cannot over rev the motor on downshifts it just wont go to the lower gear if the revs will be above the limit , and if the DSG software is stock you cannot over rev the motor
DSG keeps your turbo spooled as the shifts are done via ignition cuts AKA wotbox
you cannot drop the clutch or abuse any CV's sideshafts etc etc with shock loads
all in all its cool

Interesting indeed. So the DSG mechatronics were supposed to be sorted from 08 models but mine is slightly problematic still. When I mentioned the issue to Frans he said its very common on the MKV GTI's regardless of year model so yeah. I would assume there are slight differences in the DSG boxes between the MKV and MKVI?

^^^ And?
XDS works from the Bosch ESP system and controls the brakes..nothing to do with the gearbox.

I love the info here
So, I can get a Mk5 GTI (November 2010 registered if that helps with any further info) DSG 'box, steering wheel, wiring harness to steering wheel (no idea from where to wheel), etc and will go have a look at the goodies next week Tuesday. Car had 94K km on it when it was written off.

mk5s stopped in 2009
this one, if legit at that date, was old stock when it was registered
