Intake Sounds == Compressor Surge

Post by f0x »

Apologies if this is a silly question but the sound that an intake makes

ex : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hMW7V6y31vg

Is this actually compressor surge or flutter that is just more prominent?

My understanding is that it is air that is being pushed out the intake coming off the throttle, shouldn't the DV have taken care of that pressure?

It's not surge. It's just the DV fluttering. You can hear it better with an open intake because the stock filter and box muffle it.

Ok, thanks!

I see a lot of people talk about the DV spacer and there are a lot of threads about the negative impacts of using them;

Just out of curiosity, what are your views on them?

Personal view - I won't put one on. The dump is dramatic enough with my EvoMS. Also, it messes with air flow metering (not sure about the extent, but sounds like un-ideal to me)

Yeah I agree about the sounds; was actually asking since a mate of mine wants one;

I think the intake sound is prefect was just worried about what it actually is, thanks Sinbad. :hi:

Agreed, nothing touches an Evoms on FSI and TSI. Also the dv spacer will make more noise and lose you 6whp.

As far as I know only certain DV makes that flutter sound. If it bothers you, just fit another type.
