8v Turbo.. with Ko3

Post by Mange »

hey guys

1st off we all know about the 16v Turbo conversion  but thats not what im asking about.

so please no negative comments, or hey thats stupid bla bla bla i DOnt care ! .
if you have usefull information that would add light to my topic then your more than welcome

I am looking at putting a hairdryer onto my 8v .... im not looking for monster boost and a million KW's  although that would be nice . haha

the reason i dont want to go the 16v route is that i am getting the turbo parts really cheap off a friend and it will work out allot cheaper than doing the 16v Turbo conversion for me.

Parts i know i need :
Turbo T25/28
Turbo manifold
wastegate
Dump Valve
intercooler
piping for intercooler and downpipe
oil return from turbo into sump
and the 3mm turbo head gasket to lower the compression
fuel pressure regulator
oil pressure gauge to be safe
bigger injectors
and then re tuning my Dicktator for it

i DONT plan on running higher than 0.5bar through my motor maybe in the future like over a year or 2 ill bump it up .......

Parts i need ? ......

Thanks

You already have a fpr in your standard rail. Maybe just look at a beter fuel pump but if your only aiming for 0.5bar maybe the standard pump would be fine.

If your only boosting 0.5 you dont need to go 3mm on spacer. 2mm wil be fine unless u want to boost more in future.

Your clutch might not be happy with the new found toque.

Youve got most of the things covered there, but theres always small things that pop up along with the build.

-f your going to get a custom manifold to use that waste gate you need to make sure of your spacing cause spacing sucks on a u-flow head end head soak is a bastard so get a proper heat sahield to put between the inlet and turbo manifolds and if you can afford to get the turbo mani ceramic coatetd thats gonna help alot.

8vT's are fun. And there is really no point in making more than 350Nm in a mk1 cause you cant put it down.

Good luck.

if you planning on only running a T28 on 0.5 bar then an internal wastegate is easier and cheaper. I've been running my u-flow turbo for almost 18 months and it runs like a dream...

Thanks guys its nice to look at a thread and it hasnt been shut down by bad comments ......

@panic parts im getting cheap are :

Turbo Brand new so no need to have it rebuilt
Turbo manifold im getting brand new for under R500
piping im not going with the aluminium now coz its crazy expensive
and the intercooler im getting pretty cheap aswell ....

i dont plan on rushing the build at all !!! iv tried rushing a 16v motor and i paid through my assssss with school fee's .....

i wanna build up all the parts together then save up a few grand to keep as safety for all the little things that WILL go wrong or leak etc

Ok all the stuff you get cheap are the things that really does not matter whether it is a 16v or an 8v. But anyway. I dislike 8v u-flow because you always have space and always have massive heat issues and always have an issue with getting oil drains done etc.
If you really have to build an 8v then try do it on a x-flow.

Been there done that, and I think I used the T-shirt as an oil rag
As Stephan said, go X-flow 8V-T.

U-flow is do-able, but believe me, doing a turbo setup on an 8V X-flow is 1000 times easier than doing it on a U-flow.

You get a couple of different castings for the cross flow head.

If U can get a German castings its first prize but the Mexican castings is the most easily obtainable. I can get a Mexican casting that's already ported and flowed with a big vale conversion for around R3200.

Its definitely the way to go if 8vT is your thing. I going for another dyno next week on a new cam aiming for around 210kw and 400Nm.

Bit more detail

Just might be your lucky day. Looking at the water ports the head is in a very very good condition.
Good price for the head.

Like blackie said about the x flow head is better .Ive done my turbo setup on a normal head and can see that it is a problem because there is no space and a lot of mods to be made like your gear links and the heat of the turbo to close to the rubbers of stearing collum .

I have never seen a 1.8 x-flow head as they were basically either 1.6 or 2l but yes i suppose if you can find such an animal it should work.
