We have a Jetta 3 cli in the family. It is a late 92/93 model. Very nice car. Looking at buying it from my mom in two years time.

Well , it has everything the its VR6 brother has , 'sides the rather enthusiastic at times fuel consumption of the 6 cylinder motor.

Also to drop it ( lower ) on a standard set of 30mm springs won't make it go so low as it's bigger brother , but it is an executive express.

This because of slightly different suspension track setups , and again , the weight of the motor , at that mileage , it seems a good buy if for sale , I wanted one too , electric window winders are very pricey , a tad over R1500 per door , computer box is also pricy , beyond that , a well rounded vehicle !

Some on the BB , ie Theo , although not a CLi also add a bigger set of lungs to improve breathing and long distance stamina and also wider 16" wheels for that low slung look.

I say buy it if available !

Is it the one with the stunning 15-inch mags, and special interior trimmings? If so - go for it!!!

I was looking for one myself, as it's a very spacious, capable, comfortable car.

Hey Mo - good choice!! :)

Seriously, I bought a white '96 New Spec CLi in early June which was then stolen in mid July. A week later I bought an indigo blue '98 CLi Exec with the 15 inch rims and silver dials.

Both cars were lovely - spacious, quiet and resonably swift. Personally I also like the fully colour coded format that the updated CLi's were sold in - makes them look a little neater than the otherwise similar CLX model. Strangely, the '96 non-exec model felt quite a bit swifter than the newer Excec one, which also seems to have firmer suspension setting. The 15 inch rims also improve braking performance quite a bit, so they may be worth getting as an upgrade. What I also like about the Jetta CLi, over the equivalent GTi, is that they have often had more conservative ownership and are not as likely to have been modified or crashed.

Just one thing though - make sure that the car has good security, is insured and is not parked in spots where it can be molested - thieves like them too!!
