how to remove spots on paint?

Post by Belix »

Hi folks
Used the car quite a bit today, but when home I noticed stacks of tiny orange brown spots all over the car. No idea where they came from, and they are all over the place, so does not look like it was splashed from the road, or from one side. Got then on the front bumper, bonnet, roof, doors, and ever the tailgate :twisted:
trouble is, each takes about 1 minute of rubbing with a wet cloth to remove, and there are still about 1000 to go.
Anyone know what the stuff it might be, and more importantly, how to remove them?

you gonna have to clay
theres a few diys in the detailing section

u can buy online at crazy detailer
or pop into builders warehouse and get the sonax spray and clay
ive used it works well, but u gonna have to put some protection on afterwards since it removes all wax/sealants and other contaminents

it will be very smooth after tho
if u close to centurion let me know im gonna do the SO's car soon

Never done any kind of detailing more than the ol soap and wash, so guess it's either find some place that does the full monty round the randburg area, or come by and say hi. Will have to go through the DIYs to see what you would use after the claying.
When you thinking of giving the SOs car the once over?

A bit late, but extreme car wash in blairgowrie is worth a try

claying will provide a good base for all the other detailing you plan on doing
it cleans the paint of bonded contaminents and the protection will also help in prevent it in future
it will really feel super smooth after youve done it
well worth it in the end

Claying aint that difficult, check the crazy detailer website, they have a DIY video which shows the basics.
Get a good polish and wax which finish off the car brilliantly and should protect your paintwork for up to 6 months.

Zee (Onyx) did the detail for me took about 6 hours IIRC.
Spots seem common!

Ok, so I bought some Sonax Extreme shampoo......You can use it undiluted to remove stubborn marks. Didnt work. I think I'm going to have to clay the car. Watched a couple videos....seems simple enough.

Which brand clay should I get? I see several brands on the CD website - not sure which one to get.

Autoglym kit consisting of

* Rapid Detailer,
* Surface Detailing Clay Bar,
* Super Resin Polish,
* Blue Microfibre Cloth
* Perfect Polishing Cloth.

Or the Mother's kit consisting of
2 x 80 gram Clay Bar,
16 oz. Showtime® Instant Detailer,
15"x15" Mothers Microfiber detail towel.

or should I get the CrazyDetailer Paint Renovator kit consisting of :
Detailing Clay(Fine) 100gr
Adams - Detail Spray/Clay lube 120ml
Autoglym - Paint Renovator 325ml
CrazyDetailer MagicGripMicrofiber applictors (2pk)
CrazyDetailer Plush Polishing Towels (2pk)

Any advice would be appreciated.

frm what Zee was saying, the brand is not as an important as how agressive or not the clay is. The least agressive one should work and limit effect on underlying paint.

Ok, the order has been placed. I ended up taking the mild Chemical Guys kit with the lube, clay and paint renovator.

Thanks for all the advice - its appreciated.

Guys, remember claying your car will mar (swirl) the paintwork, obviously, depending on how aggressive the clay is. So if you're going to clay, I suggest going the whole hog and polishing, sealing and waxing afterwards.

Really? All the videos I watched mentioned that you might mar the paint if you dont use enough lubricant. I dont want to cause swirls on my brand new car!

In any event, I was planing on Polishing and waxing afterwards......For that purpose, I ordered the "Crazydetailer - High Gloss Kit" which has :

Autoglym Super Resin Polish (Value R113.00)
Collinite - Insulator wax #845 (Value R155.00)
CrazyDetailer Foam Applicators (Value R25.00)
CrazyDetailer Polishing Towels (Value R25.00)
CrazyDetailer UltraPlush Towel (Value R40.00)

Just to clarify, claying doesnt damage paint but reveals all defects and removes all protection

Like Rodga said: "use enough lube and you'll be fine" - i gather he's talking from experience (detailing and otherwise) :lol:

Autoglym SRP is a great follow up (do a panel at a time and dont use too much product or its difficult to remove and dusts loads)
You can even do more than one application (packed with loads of fillers, so it'll mask the swirls)

As for Colli 845 - my go to LSP these days (just so easy to work with - almost like butter!)
