Hey all..So I got my balls chewed off when I was thinking of getting an *** cam
There is another one for sale - the guy doesnt know which make it is, he said it has VW and 276 on it,
Did VW ever do a 276 cam?? I only heard of 272 from the R-lines??
I also heard ESTAS make VW cams - could it be made by ESTAS??
Google doesnt wanna be my friend
Any help would be appreciated

Re: Cam identification
Let him take pictures of it and send it to you but if it says VW on it it's most likely a regrind. You want to avoid that as well.
Nellis posted some pictures of the markings on an estas cam a while ago. Try maybe searching with him as the author.

Re: Cam identification
It was quicker to go to Photobucket than to search. As panic said; it will be a regrind, probably an old solid lifter std cam turned into a 276H. If it does not have the Estas logo then it is not an Estas. Note that all our VW cams have a 30° bevel on the lobe's edge. For two reasons: to have the contact area between the lobe and follower in the correct position and to prevent the edge of the lobe from "biting" into the follower as the lobe contact surface, with a width of 15 ±0,5mm, is not parallel; it has a taper of 0,01 - 0,028mm taper towards the rear of the camshaft.panic-mechanic wrote:Let him take pictures of it and send it to you but if it says VW on it it's most likely a regrind. The Estas colour coding is shown below.

Re: Cam identification
And here's a mech lifter cam that was ground to a hydraulic "264/268". The lobes on this specific camshaft had a taper of 0,048mm. The lobe width varied (due to the casting) from 17.3mm - 18.8mm. I'm not implying that all regrinds are bad though.
