G cam

Post by MK1dub »

What is the difference between a g-cam and a estas cam or 276,288...
and will it work on a mp9 head?
Will it make a power difference?

what cam is on the car currently, the mp9 heads normally come with a A-cam and IIRC its the same profile as the G-cam.
also the g-cam might not fit on the mp9 head because some of them took 4 cam caps.

Well its a standard cam that came with the mp9 head.

So actually I'll do better if I sell the G-cam and get a case of beers and get vrot, because I got a raw deal!

Totally irrelevant, cams are identical regardless if the head had 4 or 5 cam caps, and can be swapped from head to another

g cam is very mild cam, when my car was carb I fitted a g cam and expected a huge difference but it wasn't so, it did make a differnence but very slight.

when I tried fitting my the g cam from my carb head after my mp9 conversion, it did not fit due to head not accommodating the journal for 5th cam cap

The hydraulic cam variants works as follows:

026 G = 1.8 K-jet (4 bearing head)
026 A = 2.0 Digifant (ditto)
026 L = 1.8 carb (ditto)
026 AF = 1.4 MP9 (ditto)
037 D = 1.6/1.8 MP9 (5 bearing head)

The G, A and D has the same profile and lobe separation. The difference between them being that the keyway position of A and G differs and D has 5 journals. The profile of L and AF is identical; keyway position differs.

Lift curve comparison between G (A, D) and AF (L).

Neither of them; the 026 L is used in the 1600 HM engine.
