People still ask me almost everyday where the hell did I find my MKII as it looks like new. I think taking care of your car's paint, trim and interior really makes it stand out rather than what year and model and . . . .

Yeah you have to have patience doing something like this - but for me it is very therapeutic, albeit hard graft.

Just to add, if you can't get your hands on Megs #7, you can get the consumer version of this pure polish for single stage paint which is called Meguiars Deep Crystal Car Polish(Maroon bottle from Game, Builders Warehouse,Makro etc), its fairly cheap, around R100-R120. A must for any MK1 owner.

Thats what I have been using on my Citi, but now got the #7 so work shall begin using that very soon
And with pure coincidence, this thread is revived, and I've been researching this exact procedure to detail old paint.
And when I say old, I mean ANTIQUE.
I'm not doing this exact thing, but going with the "moisturising" the paint prior to polishing
