Polo tdi high idle issue... going to Hatfield Thursday :)

Post by SoDub »

Hi Guys

Dont know if I just got a bad batch of 50 but my car was sometimes idling at 1000 revs instead of 1 mark below that. Put 500 in last night and it seems to have solved that problem. Anyone else had similiar issues with diesel?

Did it again today as I was leaving for lunch but settled down again. Maybe this was the remaining of the crap engen 50 ppm? Maybe I have a faulty MAF?

I am not sure if it is the diesel, although some guys have had funny things happen with different diesels, my car has always behaved in a largely similar manner, but I always, religiously use 50ppm...

diesel 500ppm/50 ppm - higher idle - Dont think its the dies

Post by SoDub »

So car behaved fine for a day but I never drove it at night or during the day so I never used the lights or aircon. Car seems to move to a slightly faster idle at 1000 revs when the lights or aircon are switched on. Battery or alternator issue maybe?

When you have your lights or aircon on, you are drawing more power or energy from the engine sometimes requiring a higher idle rpm...

Booked the car in for Monday. Dont think its a normal thing as it would have done it since I bought the car. Also have a "shhh shh shh" sound from the front wheels at slow speed with or without applying the brakes. It had the brakes and the bushes done at the dealer about a month ago. Car is on 42k so maybe its just asking for its service a little bit early

Re: tdi higher idle issue

Sent my car in today...

Got a call from vw now.. They keeping my car to test out the idle issue as it is not a constant high idle. They want to check with VWSA on what it could be. It apparently happens without the aircon and lights being on as well.

On the subject of the "shhh" "shhh" noise from the front wheels when cold - they saying it is a tire noise - as brakes and LCA bushes have been changed and the noise persists... <- I will follow up on this issue, swop the front wheels with others(different tire make) to test...

Could well be tyres, Polo's and similar chassis' show saw-tooth wear which makes this noise, my car has the same issue...

Cheers

my car went in on thursday for the same issue and they werent able to 'diagnose' the problem. It went in this morning again, got a call from the service manager saying they want to keep the car for further testing...my problem seems to be a little worse though-it idles at around 1300 and resets to below 1000 when you tap on the accelerator...

Phoned them today and told them to check out the state of the battery... They phoned me now and said they have checked everything and the car is plugged in - apparently to vwsa? as the dealer has never seen an issue like this on a s/l. They asked if they can keep it for one more day. aaargh! Oh well as long as they come up with a solution!

Must say im appreciating the polo as I'm cruising around in my dads citi 1.6i. Its a bit rough around the edges after driving the polo for over a year! BRAKES!!!! lol

Bruma VW phoned me today informing me that my car might need to stay one more day. Apparently everything possible thing has been checked on but it is still sometimes idling at 1000revs and they are resorting to changing the throttle body but dont have any in stock... So I might get my car back today but will have to return it again when it arrives :(

Thats what the service advisor told me :P Im not too clued up on the diesel engine. Im seriously thinking of getting the car from them this afternoon and booking it into hatfield. I should have taken it there in the first place but thought it would be a simple fix!

Ask them to explain further, TDi's don't have throttle bodies...

I will ask them to at around 16:30 when they get back to me... I was thinking more on the lines of a faulty MAF sensor or battery but who knows. They got new service advisors there recently- Got a snotty "How do you know?" when I told them it needed LCA bushes and I was right so maybe they need a push in the right direction? lol

Nothing pisses me off more than an attitude like that  I have learnt that it is in rare cases that dealerships actually know what is best...
