Golf MK1, fuel tank removal.

Post by BlueBlob »

Anybody taken one out recently?

How much pain am I in for?

How exactly does it come out?

Please, please, pretty please, tell me the axle doesn't have to come out...

Ummm it's not the most difficult thing to do... it's just **** because it's under the car.

You just loosen all the hoses and then there are 2 straps holding it in. Each strap is bolted to the body with a 13mm nut. Once the straps are loose, the tank can slide out.

You don't have to remove the whole axle, I just dropped the one side, but dropping the whole axle will make it easier.

sorry mate axle must just be loosened (4 bolts holding it up) try and mark it before you remove, just to ensure
that the axle goes back into the position it was...

there is 2 straps holding it up, loosen the 2 bolts, then the petrol down pipe and over flow must be removed and that is held in place by clamps...

and dare i say it , Blobs your uncle...

Oh, reason for this:

We dyno'd my new motor last night. Went fantastically well up to 240kw at teh wheels when we started running out of fuel.

Car is now getting a fuel cell, surge tank, 10mm fuel lines (x2) and two fuel pumps. Let's see the fucker run out of fuel now.

Thanks man.

The idea is to get to 280kw. Will stop there 'cause I don't think a stock bottom-end will like much more than that.

Sorry man. Not spending as much time here as I used to.

Yeah, melted the previous motor, so built a new one. Same spec though, bar one or two little secret changes.

Basically makes 30hp more as the previous one, at the same boost level, and we can now actually get more than 1.2 bar. Well, we will, as soon as the fuel delivery problems are sorted.

Peice of piss .. even easier on your car as the exhaust isn't in the way. Fitted the tank in my race car when I built it in about 10mins by myself

Yup ... bit of a fail on my part really  . Should have mentioned that when I did it there was no brake or fuel lines to deal with Also stuffing around trying to leave the brake lines in place wasted allot of time, we should have just dropped the whole axel in the first place and it would have taken half the time :bang:
Only glad I could help out though.
