How to replace the polly ribbed belt on the polo with power steering

Tools needed

Big flat screw driver
10 spanner
13 spanner
21 spanner

Step 1
Remove the airbox

Step 2
Vice the screw driver between the tensioner wheel and the arm that holds it ... and pull the screw driver towards you . Slip the belt off the alt. pulley. Slowly let the screwdriver go back .

Step3
Get under the car .. Take the 13 spanner and loosen the powersteering bolts (2 of them) one has a tensioner (the one at the back of the motor. Turn the tensioner back towards the exhaust side (using the 21 spanner) Now you can take the smaller of the 2 fan belts off. Now Turn the powre steering pump all the way forward .. You can now take the big polly belt off.

Step 4
While yor replacing the belt might as well replace the tensioner wheel (R65) take the 13 spanner and remove the nut ... take wheel off replace with new wheel and tighten.

Step 5
First put on the polly belt over the cam pully over the air con under the tensioner. Get the screw driver vice in between the arm and the wheel as in step 2 and slip the belt over the alt. Make certain the belt is properly on and in it's groves.

Step 6
Take the 21 spanner and get the Powersteering rack back to the exhaust side slip the small belt over the cam pully and the water pump first then over the power steering pump. Thighten the tensioner so that the belt can't move thru 90 degrees ang then thighten the 2 number 13 bolts on the power steering .

Step 7
Replace the air box.
