VR6 Airflow-Meter Problem
Sup dudes?
Allgood on my side (not really ). I’ve been having some performance issues with my VR6 over the past 2-3months. The car’s been to VW in PE about 3times already and they keep telling me that theres nothing wrong with it (stupid idiots). I finally decided to consult my buddy who does all the VR6 / V5 cars at the Uitenhage VW dealership. I explained my cars symptoms to him (Poor power delivery / Hard starting sometimes / Terrible consumption). He almost immediately knew what the cause was. He told me that theres a 75% chance that my Air-Mass-Meter is stuffed.
Friday I ran a test on my car. I had a couple of runs with the MAF dissconnected & re-connected. The car felt exactly the same both ways. My car doesn’t wanna rev like it use to. I 1st suspected the lambda & Crank sensor. According to the VW VAS both are giving proper readings.
Did any1 ever experience this before?
BTW:
New NGK plugs
New HT Leads
Crack-free Coilpack

I agree with your logic that it is the MAF. If the VR6 has the same ECU (Motronic 5) as my 1995 Audi S2 has, airflow is the one important thing that you can't log with VAGCOM. But if the car pulls the same with the MAF connected or not, it is most probably the MAF.
Why not try to clean the MAF before replacing? Clean the plug with contact cleaner and the MAF element with Carb Cleaner. Spray the carb cleaner from a distance as the element is quite delicate (I repeat it 3 times). I see you use an oiled filter - they are not good for MAFs!

Í've always used a paper filter on this car. Only fitted Simopta flatpad about 1.5 months ago. You should know from my previous posts that i've been having perfomance issues for a loooongtime now already. Apparently you can buy a 2.0l MAF and just use your old housing. Its suppose to be much cheaper.
Very common in Europe and USA. But Our 2.0l Golf3's have no MAF's

I'm just trying to check what all the options are. My car has been booked for the 18th at VW anyways. They allready told me that theres a 75% chance that my MAF is busted. My warranty (SA Warranties) should cover most of the cost anyways. I saw that www.mrturbo.co.za sells the BOSCH MAF for R750. It looks exactly the same as mine. If i do have2 pay in 2much at VW i'll buy the BOSCH 1 from mrturbo

You get three different types, 94-96 had one type, 96-98 had two types it wich has the same part no except the one has a "A" added to the part no if I remember correctly. They don't work if it's not the correct one believe me.

I had a problem starting my VR6 (98 model), I had to start the car and hold the accelarator on about 1500rpm for 30 seconds and then the car would idle by it self, otherwise it would just hunt and switch off... My mechanic changed the AIR MASS METER and walla all has been fine ever since..... I bought a original one from the agents R3500.00
