Mk5 GtI BWA DSG engine noise

Post by Fatboyslim »

Hey guys

My cab has been to 2 VW dealerships for this issue , no one can fix this

this noise only happens after the car has been running for a while and is hot
its like a rattleing noise thats a bit uneven

VW said it was the cambelt and tensioner so they replaced that
then they said it was the DV so they replaced that

then they said they ran a full scan and got no errors , but the noise is still there and it starting to irritate me
they also said it was the injectors that are noisy , i dont buy that coz its not a even sound the rattling happens at odd intervals

is there anyone on the forum that could have a look for me
maybe i could meet up with someone else who has a G5 and see if they also have the noise
im in the centurion area

any help please guys this is driving me nuts

regards

Get a flexible pipe, start the car, put one end of pipe to ear and find the noise.

If it's like a clack clack clack noise then it's a mystery. I've heard two MK5 GTi's making that noise

Hi Guys

Thanks for the replys , I just wish i could listen to another G5 and just hear if they make the same noise
cos then it could be the injectors like they said

but im comparing it to my G4 and it is way noisier than the golf 4

Could be your DMF (Dual Mass Flywheel) that is on its way out. Google it....some earlier DSG models had this problem. Sounds like pebbles being thrown around in the gearbox.

Is your DSG box smooth otherwise?

Bud it only makes the noise / or i can only hear the noise when the car is idleing , and then it just sounds a bit like a uneven rattle
car is smooth , no other wired sounds , and it only makes this noise after its been driven for a while

DSG is smooth no noises from there shifts are nice in D S and man
Ive been told it may be the cam follower??? are they suspect?on the G5

Yes, the noise appears during idle and sometimes during shifts.

It could be anything really, difficult to say without actually listening to it :) Even then it might be difficult to pinpoint the issue.

Cam followers and cam was a problem on < 2006 models as well as some later incidents but then you would also experience some performance issues.

So anyways guys

Pull through to Autohaus Centurion this morning and start throwing my toys
3 weeks ago i asked them could it not be the Cambelt and tensioner or maybe the cam follower ? Please check both (Thanks to all the okes on the forum ) sommer make me look slim anol

so they say its the cambelt they replace that ... problem still here
then it was the Diverter Valve so they replaced that ... problem still there

so now 3rd time lucky  they now say its the Cam Follower and some chain thing and the fuel pump .... so cabs going in monday again
I really hope this fixes the problem , it seems that VW just replace **** until the problem goes away ... Thank goodness for the motorplan
imagine if i was doing this cash  i was have to sell the house to pay for there trial and error :bang:

Mine did that it was caused by a broken oil control ring in the cam chain housing!
