Hi guys hope someone can help me here. I have a 1992 citi golf. Was originally 1.3 carb and changed to 1.6 AFX engine but still running on carb.
Problem is the the tappets are very noisy. So changed oil and filter. Used shell helix 25w60 and tappets are still noisy. Been told by someone that need to either check gaps on tappets and adjust or replace shims. Now question is I would like to know if one of you guys can tell me which type of tappets would this car have? Either solid or hydraulic? I might be wrong but as I understand, solid tappets have shims so would need to replace shims, and hydraulic tappets don't have shims and can be adjusted. Am I right or wrong?
So if it can be adjusted how do I go about it.
Any help will be highly appreciated.
Noisy tappets on 1.6 citi golf engine.

Re: Noisy tappets on 1.6 citi golf engine.
AFX has hydraulic valve lifters.
Hydraulic valve lifters cannot be adjusted.
Low oil pressure can cause them to be noisy. Check oil pressure and go from there. If pressures are fine, change the lifters.
Get INA brand lifters from Goldwagen.
