Oil on crankshaft sensor
Hello guys
I have a vw golf mk4 gti 2002 AUQ
I was driving and while at the robot my car died
Started after the 3rd attempt and drove to work took out the crank sensor to see if there was a problem and the sensor is covered in black engine oil
But a few months ago I took my car in to have that looked at before and they said it was the gearbox seal and they replaced it and had a look at the rear main seal and said it's not leaking from there and it's been fine until now
What could it be from and also there are no drips under the car or oil running from the bell housing
Any advice would be appreciated

Re: Oil on crankshaft sensor
The crank sensor on this engine bolts on the side of the block, the "inner" part of it is meant to be messed with oil because it's in the crankcase.
U need to get the car scanned, it will probably guide u towards the cause of it cutting out.

When a car tailgates me, i slow down - then floor it and give them a cloud of diesel smoke to choke on

Re: Oil on crankshaft sensor
OK but I'm running dictator currently I should've mentioned that in the original post I'll have to physically check to see what's the problemAshveer03 wrote: ↑Thu Jul 11, 2024 1:29 pm The crank sensor on this engine bolts on the side of the block, the "inner" part of it is meant to be messed with oil because it's in the crankcase.

Re: Oil on crankshaft sensor
Ok I'm unaware of how dictator is set up.
I guess u are using the original crank sensor and individual coil packs?

Re: Oil on crankshaft sensor
Yes original crank sensor
As far as I know it's using 4 pin coil packs, injectors, crank sensor, water temp sensor, fuel pump and I still have the original ecu wired in but nothing is spliced it's cut off and joined so the original ecu doesn't read or interfere with the dicktator

Re: Oil on crankshaft sensor
Well it's gonna be difficult to diagnose the cut off..
Will be easier if it just refuses to start completely.
Dictator doesn't have the ability to view live data of the sensors?

Re: Oil on crankshaft sensor
I know that is what makes it difficult to pin point that's why my first thought was to check the crank sensor
Could it not be that the sensor is on its way out

Re: Oil on crankshaft sensor
It's possible.
I noticed when they start to fail, they give issues mainly when the engine is hot.
With these it's best to replace with an OEM part, and they are well over a thousand at the agents.
Notice any weird sounds from the fuel pump?

Re: Oil on crankshaft sensor
Oh ok...
In that case it would help checking the main powers and grounds first.
Could be possible the management power relay is overheating.
Sorry don't know much about managements, wait for one of the other guys to chime in.
