Hi all
My Golf 5 GTi has recently started making this rattle on cold start only. This sound will last for about 15 seconds and then die down. What could it be?

Bought the car in December. Car has recently had a 180 000km major service end of Jan. Cambelt Kit and Water pump was included in this service.
Car got a stage 1+ tune and DP end of Feb. It's not reaching the 1.5bar of boost the tune is asking for, only maxing out at 1.3bar. Tuners believe it could be my fuel pump, not HPFP tho.
Car is on 180 600km's.
TIA

Re: Golf V GTi rattle
Not sure about the rattle, but 1.5bar for a stage 1 map is very high!! It might also be the wastegate spring that is worn out. On my K03 turbo on a stage 2 map boost peaked at 1.2 and then dropped to 0.8 bar.

I replaced my DV when doing this tune, old 1 had a rip in the boot. I peak at 1.3bar and then drop to about 1 bar.

Re: Golf V GTi rattle
Even with a new DV (GFB DV+) I couldn't keep full boost. But spending R3500 on a new forge wastegate is not worth the gain in my opinion. And also a reputable tuner told me that he wouldn't fit a forge wastegate to a stock engine as the boost ramp is very aggressive.
Yoh, that rattle doesn't sound good. I have no idea what it can be though. Very weird that it is intermittent.

Re: Golf V GTi rattle
Could it be an oil pressure issue? Since it's only on a cold start. I usually just let the car idle until the rattle goes away and then once it's gone I drive it and it doesn't make that noise again.RebelGTI wrote: ↑Wed Mar 23, 2022 9:08 amEven with a new DV (GFB DV+) I couldn't keep full boost.
