Caddy 2K Maxi Trendline

Post by THE GAME »

Hey Peeps

Hope everyone is doing well,
Anyway with Gods grace my family expending :hurray: i am in need of a 7 seater car.
Been looking at Kia/Hyundai but broken down my search to BMW & VW

Currently running with my E90 320D Msport its very hard not to like a diesel car.
so the search was on for a X5 3.0D E70 facelift but damm very hard to find in a 7 seater
also very pricey still

So i was browsing and came across Senna's Caddy 2K trendline and boy did my mind change on the X5
From what i notice very scarce model to buy, find them only in Crew bus or panelvan
Guys are advertising them as Maxi and when u see pics its a damm panelvan :moon:

What are some of the major flaws on this vehicle, maintenance cost, tires, service cost etc. ???

I understand the DSG can be pricey when it goes bang

Any good advise

Thanks

We have a 2007 1.9 TDi Life with 175 000km, but with 5 seats and 5 speed manual.

This is probably the best all rounder car we have ever owned. It is a great open road cruiser, bakkie, mom's taxi, towcar, the lot. I honestly dread the day the Caddy needs to go, as it is so versatile.

Major flaws are few and far between and it will be very subjective, but if I must single out one, it would be the choppy ride over speed bumps, seeing as you have a beam axle at the back with leaf springs. Load it up with kids or something in the back and it settles perfectly. Something to bear in mind is blind spots towards the rear, but the side mirrors are big and you get used to the car's dimensions.

Maintenance over nearly 14 years has been very easy on the pocket. Our car has always been serviced at the dealer, with big ticket items such as the clutch done at a non franchised dealer at 160 000km. Services range between R1 500 for a pure lube service to R3 500 for a major service. The cambelt service is an expensive one. If I recall it came out to about R7 500, but that was a few years ago. Over time, wear and tear items were replaced, such as stabiliser links, shocks, tyres, the aforementioned clutch, brake pads, CV boots, but nothing major, it still runs on the factory discs. Goldwagen has been a very good source of parts too. We have 15 inch tyres (195/65/15) and they are fairly inexpensive. I do regular wheel alignment, and 60 000km on a set of tyres is easily achievable. Fuel consumption is also a major benefit. Not towing, open road will see you dipping under 6 litres per 100km easily, if you stay within the speed limit. Heavy town driving only will see you go up to about 8,5 litres per 100km.

In summary, I would recommend a Caddy in a heartbeat. The newer ones are a bit more civilized than our 2007, so you will find a few more niceties, such as cruise control, PDC, etc.

Pleasure brother. :)

The trick is probably to find one in the spec you like. They seem to be a bit scarce as people tend to hold on to them.

I found the power and torque of the 1.9 diesel to be more than enough, but I know that Ryan Demoser (Jetta2) has a software map on his 2.0 TDi Maxi Crewbus. I think he runs a DSG box too. Perhaps you could PM him for his views too, if he does not respond here.

Thanks Anton.

2.0 TDI 5 speed manual with Revo Stage 1 software.
It runs very very nicely for a big heavy van and I average around 800km on a tank of diesel in everyday driving.
On a recent trip to CT (three people and luggage) I filled up at Beaufort West and the reserve light had not gone on yet.
There was 957km on the trip meter.

The only major issue I had was the DMF clutch setup that failed and left me stranded in Durbs.
But that was due to the clutch being abused by the previous drivers. It was an ex-VW service vehicle.

Panic did the cambelt, pulleys and waterpump job a while ago.
Other than that is has been the most versatile vehicle I have ever driven.
I remove the rear seats and load my bike and gear for track days regularly.

It has not skipped a beat and I am VERY happy with it.
If something big had to happen and I was forced to sell or scrap it, I would not think twice about getting another Caddy.

Is your family expanding? I am going to reply from a different angle... how big is your family?

We have had the Hyundai Santa Fe for 7 years now with the seven seats and even though it hasn't missed a beat at 188000km if I could go back I would buy a bus! We have three kids and the back row is really just for small kids and temporary like running to the mall with Oupa en Ouma... you lose all boot space when those seats are up. When the three kids are sitting next to each other in the middle row it is very bad for most living beings' mental health... like when you go on a long trip it is borderline suicidal... you will get there one day ;)

I know the caddy layout is totally different with more usable space but keep these things in mind.
