So, I am contemplating getting a turbo timer (autogauge) and having it installed on my 05' 2.0 bkd Golf. Just wanted to hear what the guys thoughts are on it. I always let the car idle after drives and vary the length depending on how long and hard I drove. Sometimes in the morning this does mean I am a bit late or don't always let it idle for as long as I would like.
Would it be a good idea to get the turbo timer then? I am just wanting to rather be overly cautious I guess.

Re: Turbo timer on a tdi
Thanks man, then I guess it will be a EGT gauge and see where I can subtly mount it.

Save the cash and dont spend it on anything. Put it into a kitty for when the turbo decides to go.
Unless you've owned the car since new, you don't know the life it's had in the past 15 years.
Drive with mechanical sympathy, which sounds as if you already do, and you'll be fine.
Remember you can't reverse whatever damage is already done. It's like trying to treat a bullet wound with Panado and plasters. Might help in the interim, but eventually its gonna need surgery and stitches

But thanks for the advice, luckily, I am the 3rd owner of the car, first and second owner was meticulous and second owner provided me with all receipts of work done on the car. Turbo was redone, along with the head about 10k km before I bought the car. So I do have a fairly good history of it and will take the advice and just continue to look after it as best I can. Car doesn't really get abused, as it is my daily. But I do open it up on the highway atleast every so often.
The money won't really be save. Car is going for its service and dsg service next month and then stage 1 ecu and tcu software.
