Ah the old cars salesman trick.

Retail value R159k
Trade value R125k
Price R88k.

Last time I checked WBC is a dealer, thus the actual price is the retail price. So the retail value is R88k and not R159k. :bang:

Not really...
The trade and retail values are from M&M and not concocted by the dealer.

WBC are also taking some shortcuts as the say they are a 'trade' dealer so once you pay that cash price it is voetstoots. No recourse under CPA so you are on your own.
But I bought a pretty good one for even less than that simply because everybody is poep scared of the maintenance and possible parts prices.
You need to walk into owning them with open eyes.

Was chatting to one of my colleagues yesterday, she has a 2011 3.0 v6 TDI Touareg that she bought new and is now essentially 8 years old with almost 150000km's on the clock. She says it has been completely trouble free the entire time. When she moved to our Kenya office she shipped the thing there because she loves the thing so much.

I am going to test drive a 2011 Touareg 3.0 V6 TDi on 144k km's with Terrain Tech later this morning as a possible replacement for my Golf. It has a few extra's but no air suspension and looks to be in decent condition from the pictures that I have seen. Pricing is pretty good and the trade they offered on my Golf was good, it is older and higher mileage than I was looking at though.

The mileage is decent, though air suspension is really really nice. I have gotten to love mine so much that I think once it is time to change the missus car, the v6 will definitely be an option

I had a look at and drove the car, it is in a fair condition for the age, a few scrapes and scratches here and there, most noticeably the front bumper and inside boot areas. I have unrealistic expectations though, so it is probably good for it's age and mileage. Talking of mileage, the advert is wrong, it is on 154k km's with the camchain service having been done last year and it's last service on 148k km's. It drives really well although the alignment and steering wheel are both out and it didn't have the AT's on, which the current owner keeps for offroad trips. It had mismatching tyres front to rear and they seemed noisy at speed but I am coming from a Golf. One of my issues is that anything I get in to, compared to my Golf in terms of tech feels like an ark  I know I can't compare older cars to what I have in the Golf though and have to be realistic, I am not entirely sold on this car so taking a day or two to look around.

I’m probably going to start the hunt for a 3.0TDI Q5 in next few months

Touareg is cool but Q5 seems a better fit for me

I am looking at both but would prefer a Touareg as it has more space, a more reliable drive train and more capable off road.

For that, you gonna have to get a newer model and the prices for them seem retarded. Also, unless you get a mall creeper, most TRegs would have been used for offroad/trips, so will so that type of age.

Yep, I realise that, I just need to get my head around it. I also have friends that can sort out minor cosmetic issues so that shouldn't stop me either.

You will struggle if you compare many cars to a Golf, it serves a different purpose and is much much more refined. But I think if you really looking at getting a big car, not many come close to a treg in terms of versatility, all-roundness and price.
