Straight pipe Caddy?

Post by CarLoss »

Howsit

As the title suggests, what is the general consensus on straight piping a van? (1.9tdi)

I'd like to hear the turbo spool alot more but dont want to burn my ears with a drone while i'm cruising on the freeway.
Does it increase performance in anyway?
I know diesels sound like dragging dog bowls and hitting pots and pans but would straight piping add any crackles at all?

Just wanna hear any kind of input thanks

I will get a video of my Caddy tomorrow if I can.

I had the rear silencer removed and the Cat is still in place.
There is no drone at highway speeds and to be honest, it sounds OK to me.
No idea what it sounds like outside the Caddy but it is very noticably louder.

No tail piece, just a straight pipe with a downward bend, similar to stock.

Just cut the cat and back box out and replace them with the same size pipe. 90% of the guys love it as do myself. The other 10% can’t handle it.

Just got it done and it sounds wild. it ads a lot more rumble and spool and once it starts boosting full it literally roars. However I dont seem to have that dumping sound that other straight piped TDIs have. Will post a vid soon

When a car tailgates me, i slow down - then floor it and give them a cloud of diesel smoke to choke on :driving:

Stock downpipe and cat on my Caddy and it has that "dump" sound since the rear silencer was removed.

i have done a decat removal(only took the insides out of the cat, so the hollow cat is still in the pipe), cut out my centre silencer and my back silencer and replaced with same size pipe inserts, so it's basically a straight pipe from turbo to the back. i have no drone sound when driving on freeway, but i have a nice dumping sound between gear changes in the low rev range as well as loud hollow woosh sound, get this sound from the front as well as out of the exhaust(think this is because of the hollow cat that is still in place maybe, not sure). as soon as it goes into higher rev ranges, the sounds are much softer.
