Buying own parts for repairs at VW

Post by G-UNIT »

Hi,

My G7 went in for a diagnostic check after the EPC and check engine light came on.
My ODBII showed a cylinder 2 misfire.

They're now stripping the engine to further diagnose (NOTE: car is out of warranty)

I want to know if they now tell me something like the piston rings needs to replaced (which i suspect that this is the issue), can I source my own parts and get them to fit it?

2013 G7 TSi, 165000km's
Bought it new and want to keep it forever

If out of warranty yes most dealers do allow this but to their discretion, But they will most likely not give you any guarantee if you got the parts yourself. Only guarantee their workmanship not the parts

Hope things work out for you for the better.
Car was rather still young.

Has the car been serviced by VW all its life?

This will be expensive - last time vw stripped an engine for me the bill came at around 6k without even any repair work starting.

Exactly this. Goodluck, a rebuild at a dealership is going to cost a lot, that money could be used to rebuild the engine with forged rods and pistons for the same price (or most likely, less).

8 K to strip the engine, no feedback yet on what the issue is.

yaases, 90 - 100 K ? I hope that's a joke.

Not sure if they did a compression test but they did find a lot of oil in the 2nd cylinder.

Got my golf 7 back this weekend also suffering with oil loss. Thankfully it didn't cost me anything. Repairs covered through the dealership. My issue turned out to be valve stem seals.

It's not surprising that issues with my car started just after my warranty was over.

You may have a decent case for a Goodwill claim.

It won't be, VSS don't cause misfire. And if they did it would be pushing out absolute clouds of smoke at idle prior to the misfire starting.

The misfire just started last week Wednesday (when i had to take it in)
The valve stem seals symptoms seems to be exactly what I was experiencing prior to that.

A "good will claim" - Thanks will try to do some smooth talking

But i'm already on the service advisers bad side, ended up speaking to the dealer principal on Friday.
I should have kept my cool seeing that i would need to negotiate with them.

Get hold of VW SA and ask who the dealerships Regional aftersales manager is and deal directly with him. He is the one who will need to authorize the goodwill claim for you in anyway.

Broken piston / broken ringland most likely. Wherabout are you based, this is about the time you need to start shopping around (if they aren't going to cover it or a major portion of it).
