Good morning club,
I'm trying to flip a citi golf I bought second hand a few months back. The car was driving perfectly fine when I first bought it, but things went south after I cleaned the throttle body t. It started with an unusually high idle reaching the 3000's. I had my auto elec take a look at it, and he seemed to sort out the issue by simply cleaning the MAF sensor. From then on its started and ran fine for about a week or two, over the course of which its ability to start slowly declined, needing 1-2 to eventually 5-6 cranks before starting. Now its at a point where it doesn't start at all and the fuel mixture is running very rich. I can't crank it more than once out of fear of flooding the engine. I suspect that some electrical component(sensor or otherwise) isn't
working properly or sending the wrong signal to the throttle body, causing it to not open the valve to allow air in. I'd like to be clear that it is definitely getting spark, plugs and leads have been replaced and the distributor is good too. So I'm certain its a fuel delivery issue just not sure how to solve it though.
Any and all help would be much appreciated

Change the water temp sender first.
I am also very impressed with your auto elec. He managed to clean something that does not exist on that car.

Thanks for your reply,
Ja I also suspected the water temp sensor, haven't changed it yet. However I have solved the problem, my neighbour had a spare throttle body that we tried on the car which seemed to work as the car started after the first crank. Well it might not have been the MAF sensor but it was the sensor that sits on the side of the injection manifold.

MAP sensor it is.Very different animal despite the one letter being different in the shortening.
Mass airflow meter is a vastly different device than a
Manifold absolute Pressure sensor.
Glad you came right.

MAF vs MAP. And then you get people saying that there is no need to spell correctly.panic-mechanic wrote: ↑Fri May 17, 2019 8:18 am MAP sensor it is.Very different animal despite the one letter being different in the shortening.
