Mk3 GS 1.6 Carb

Post by SDAYA »

Morning guys,

So I'm tired of cold winter mornings cause my car refuses to start

I spray quick start and it starts, but instantly dies.
The cery same day in the afternoon when I can get back from work the car starts at first swing.

I swear it's like two different cars.

Not sure if it's a carb related issue.

So I'm thinking for converting to 2.0L MP9 or even just converting my current motor to MP9.

Anyone that can assist?
Want to know how much for supply and labour would cost or a place that I can contact for a quote?

Choke doesn't help

Whether I pull it out slightly or full

Check that the tension in the cable is correct.

It opens and closes the flap as you either pull the choke in or out.

It's clearly a fuel, supplybissue if it starts with quick start.. So check th carb base plate and check the pump that it delivers fuel.
Put you hand on top of thencarb and let somebody crank it. See that a decent vacuum is pulled. Ie no leaks in the intake side.
Then also adjust the idle mixture to be richer

If its a fuel supply then wouldn't it struggle to start in the afternoons

It's only cold mornings or cold evenings

If the temperature is okay then it starts with no issue

What's a cold start switch and can that be an issue?

What is cold start switch? Don't know such a thing.

A warm engine needs a lot less fuel. But hey rather keep guessing and or sell it than try a few of the things I suggested.

Have you tried giving small pumps on the accelerator pedal while swinging the starter?
Does it eventually start in the mornings?
And if it does, how does it run?
Is there any smell of unburnt fuel?

I ask this because even at freezing temperatures, I can start my Fox (carb 1.6) without the choke, if I must.

Are you spraying the quickstart directly into the carb or up the intake pipe( filterbox)?

Hi guys

So the issue was the carb itself...

I put another carb in and car is better than ever!

Did timing as well and adjusted the carb accordingly so now car starts with no issues and also has alot more power.
