2l 8v rebuild to aleast 110kw

Post by mike65 »

Howsit guys

Is their actually like a step by step guide on how to build a more or less 110kw 2l 8v motor?

Not that i dnt know how but would just like to see how other people get there.

Im planing on :
boring to 83.5mm
fitting branch and freeflow and
doing head work then maybe change to aftermarket management at a later stage.

Ive got pricing for pistons at R1380 with goetzee rings and bore costs about R860 rest of pricing will follow

Any input on a guide would be nice maybe i can learn new things

Slap a 1.9 TDI 8v motor in there and klap a file = 110 to 120 kw.

Bore (increase capacity), raise CR, head flow , long cam, branch and freeflow , throttles. That is the normal path.
If not enough , more valves, NOS, Turbo.

I am looking at going a similar route - but its for a T3 syncro , I have a spare 2e motor which ran bearings .

I was looking at doing the 1.9 tdi crank and 2.3 caravelle pistons and potentially a mild cam
How far can one take the MP9 mapping? , currently I am using the short loom with mp9 polo cup 2.0 computer box
I don't want crazy top end power , just more bottom and mid range power - to help climbing hills without generating too much heat

Sorry for the hi jack mike

Today ive learned you get two 83.5mm pistons of which one is 63mm long and other one is shorter
Which one would suit the long block running standard crank and rods?

You need about 25-30k, give Sarel Eloff from 8v performance a call but you basically need his stage 3 flowed head, high rev kit, bigger valves, Estas 288 or 298cam, his gatsby bottom end (2.1) 11:1 compression so either you run two maps or NF/higher octane fuel daily.

I did all this last year but didn't go 2.1 as I wasn't looking for 110kw and guess what I'm completing this weekend? a 2L 16v ABF build so if you really really really want a strong 8v then do that but a midly tuned 16v will do that power all day every day

alot of the above mentioned i can do myself and would like a 90% diy job

the 8v i dont want to spend to much on it because i have to start from scratch with the 16v build, saving most of the cash for the next build...

110kw at the coast for an 8v is easy to get and its enough for a daily...16v im planing on atleast 130kw

Buy a 2l 8v , use MP9 if existing or go management , branch + exhaust , cam & induction and be happy with it while you build your 16 valve in the background. These mods are doing +-105kw ATF down here in CPT

No point going all out on a 8v when you could have a spend less money getting a stock 16v and making more power.

Unless the plan on only running quarter miles all day then the 8v is good enough, after 400m you'll watch a 16v pass you.

Bore to 83.5mm (40 thou oversize) fit a nice 288 cam with flow and branch. And you are sorted.

He has such epic N/A builds.

Hey guys, so i have a Polo 9n , ran a whole in the block and took the engine out, i do'nt want to buy the exact same engine i was thinking of buying a 2l 8valve APK .

What I'd like to know is :

1. will it be a straight fit
2. will i need to get another gearbox as well or will the standard 1.4 work

You can forget 110wkw on a na 8v motor, not possible with all the money you got. Only to achieve that figures is to do a dyno run on a happy dyno.
Speak to 8v performance, Sarel Ellof if reacable.

I think it's easier to make that power at the coast .many 8v's with itb on pump fuel making more then 110wkw.
