Hi there,
On Saturday while driving I heard a clinging noise like something had fallen out and which followed with clouds of white smoke and oil in my exhaust. Oil light came on flashing red and beeping. By now it's clear the turbo is broken. What are my options to upgrade, repair or replace? Also suggestions anything just to help. The car is at 180000kms is it worth keeping going forward?

Re: 9n3 GTi Turbo Replacement
What do you mean is it worth keeping going forward? would you rather sell it broken or steip it for spares which is the alternatives?

Re: 9n3 GTi Turbo Replacement
Yes it is definitely worth keeping the car. Polo GTi's are strong, reliable and relatively easy to maintain.
Replace with the same turbo unless you are prepared to strengthen/upgrade other components as well.

Re: 9n3 GTi Turbo Replacement
I just bought a brand new eBay turbo for my car for R3k, so you can go that route too.

Yourself. It's doable with hand tools, there aren't any special tools needed and if you're mechanically minded it shouldn't be too difficultNikiel01 wrote:thanks guys, who can your'll recommend to do the work? just skeptical because im always getting messed around by mechanics.

Do Replace the bolts that hold the turbo onto the manifold though.

Agreed. Some kits do come with these but double check, don't use the old bolts.panic-mechanic wrote:Do Replace the bolts that hold the turbo onto the manifold though.
