Gloss Black roof wrap by Wrap & Shine

Post by DieterMK5 »

Hey guys

We had the opportunity to do a roof wrap on a very special VW Golf mk7 GTi.

First up we start off with a full wash of the vehicle using the 3BM. We then clay down the roof to remove any contamination.

The surface is then prepped using Isopropyl alcohol to rid it of any oils, finger prints and anything else that we don’t want under the film. We do the same wipe down on the top of the vinyl and underneath the vinyl backing.

After this we lay does knifeless tape where needed like the pic below. We then rewind the surface.

Film is cut to size and positioned on the panel still with the backing paper on. Magnets all have adhesive felt on them to prevent any damage to the vinyl and/or the paint itself.

The film backing is removed halfway at a time to not introduce any dust and is rolled beneath the vinyl but on top of the paint.

The vinyl is then positioned and “glassed”

The film is then layed using a squeegee with a felt tip. A quick Detailer is used to lubricate the vinyl and the felt tip to ensure even further that we don’t instill deep scratches into the vinyl.

The vinyl is then cut using the pre-installed knifeless tape, leaving a nice straight cut edge.

The vinyl is trimmed and tucked into the gap.

And tips/hints are always welcome.
