276 cam + vernier pulley

Post by Spoiltbrat »

I have a 2002 polo classic 1.6 and would like to know if its advisable to put a 276 cam + vernier pulley, also updating the ecu to a 1.8. Will this give it more power, and will it work well
Car is being used as a everyday runner

You don't need a vernier pulley unless you Deck the Block or Skim the head.
The 1.8 ecu will do nothing for power on your engine, the cam will increase power but you will need after-market Management to be tuned to get the most out of your Cam.

Your Current MP9 ecu will run with the 276 cam but it will not make allot more power

Increase CR, Cam, port & flow head. Branch and decent exhaust. And Management. To make power on a N/A motor takes money and allot of it.

I recently built a 2.0 shorblock Running a 288 estas. I have spent 12k on just the motor and engineering and have not done management yet that is another 5K plus.

The 276 cam should give you a good increase. You can either fit a unichip or go full Aftermarket management which is a better option as it is alot more tuneable. I personally dont understand why people still fit unichips to their cars. A cam, branch and decent AFM will give you a good increase

There's nothing wrong with dastek unichips, the drivability is way better with them.
I have it on my car with a 288 cam and use it daily, I get around 500km on the tank ( in town driving) and the car is so smooth that you would think it has a 272 cam.

As with anything it is very much tuner related. Some guys will go tot the trouble and have the knowledge to do it properly and some will just tape it in place and charge you.
Really. Not lying. I once found a unichip loosely taped in place, none of the actual wires connected and the owner showing me a dyno graph they gave him but he said the car did not feel any better.
