Black smoke when revving my citi golf

Post by Fagrodeen »

Hi guys, I own a 2009 city golf 1.4i. I have a mileage of 172 000 km on the car. I experienced high fuel consumption recently after I had the car serviced. I replaced the Map sensor and the coolant temperature sensor with OEM parts by VW. If I rev the car black smoke exhausts by tail pipe. If I drive say 160 km/h no smoke even then appears only when I rev the car. Diagnostics do not find any faults. What can I do?

Is the coolant temperature sensor not a common problem causing over fueling ?

Only if it is faulty.

Which you can check bu loking at the temparature reading block in vcds. It will differ from what the engine actually is.
How do you know how hot the engine actually is.
Well before you start it in the day it will be basically ambient. If you don't know what ambient is open the weather app on your phone, it will be damn close to that.
Then If th engine had been running wait for the fans to come on. That is between 95 and 98 on most cars. If the water temp is displaying 10 degrees you know it's broken......
Simple case of using tools , some deduction, some logic and some intelligence.
Combined it is called common sense.
