You must be in durban. It's only tuners in that place that perpetuate that can't run 298 on single throttle lie.

Yes.panic. I'm from Durban.. was told by someone who had the 298 with a single throttle that the idle was rough but all was sorted when he changed to throttles.
So was i misinformed then.

So then do you think a tuner can fine tune the rough idle down?

298 is possible with stb in Durban, a proper tune can make that possible .

Performance tuning (imraan) fastcar (reno) , my car is tuned by imraan and all my mates 8vs tuned by fast car . None of us really had tuning related issues .

Any long cam idles badly. Live with it or don't install it. As long as it does not die what does a rough idle matter?

I had recently used a tuner that was basically buggering me around for over a year! The first thing that comes to mind is what parts do I fit next to find the expected power- its normal for someone that isn't really clued up. But I took my car with the exact same setup to another tuner (Autotrix) and I made the expected power. Lesson to be learnt- Never loose faith in your car first and foremost, second be open to try different tuners and be assertive in letting him know what you expect.

Your gains could be minimal with from the change to a 288 from a 282, my money would be first spent on a proper tune before anything decision is taken.

I will be fitting a 298 Estas on my single TB 8v as soon as its available- something i'm not even thinking twice about.

I have lost count of the number of 298's i have fitted and sold for single throttle applications. It works and very well. It is what it was designed for. It is one of those literally exist only in Durban bulldust myths.

I had a 2.0 8V Velo with a 298 cam as a daily in Joburg, did on average around 3500km/month - traffic jams and all. Only issue I ever had was once when sitting idling on an incline with my foot on the brake I lost vacuum (assist) and the car started to roll back, after the initial confusion I diagnosed the cause - a couple of quick revs restored the vacuum and the brakes worked again. This only happened during periods of prolonged idling with a foot on the brake.
Current rides:

VW Golf - 83 GT 2.1 16V 2-door with throttles
VW Golf - 78 LS 2.0 8V 4-door (2.1 ABF with throttles in progress)
VW Golf - '08 Citi Storm - 1.4 for now
Hyundai - 1.4 Getz (daily)

29(anything) cam is so hard to find . No stock brand new or second hand .

I would also suggest a proper tune before a hardware changes

Where did u tune the car ?
