What do you look for when buying car shampoo?

Post by brandingo13 »

Out of interest what do you guys look for when buying say wash and wax? Tyre shines etc? Any car cleaning related products?
Do you trust the new startups?
Chase lower prices?
Or go for quality or the brands we know like meguirs?

It took me a while to get out of the Megwiahs is the best story once I knew that builders warehouse was not the only place you could buy car care products...

Years back when I discovered the detailing world and my favourite store who I am now a distributor for, Crazy Detailer, I began to test all different brands that I had never heard from... Finding some better and some worse competitors to the brands you find at your everyday stores until eventually all the brands I once swore by were replaced by brands you probably still don't even know exist...

All I am saying is.. Don't be afraid to try a product because you smelt it and you liked it... Unless you buying those dodgy chemicals at WesPak or something.. You don't get bad products for your car.. You just get better products! Another factor is, I might tell you that I think CarChem or the new DNA Evolved products are the best, but you could use them and hate them. What works for one person doesn't always work for another!

Experiment, Have fun

When looking for a shampoo, the following are my criteria.

- how well does it actually clean
- how easily are the suds rinsed away
- does the shampoo leave anything behind on the surface (those with gloss enhancers or a wash n wax will leave a film of something on the paint that can alter the way water behaves, so if for example you have a coated car, you cannot use any old shampoo as the remaining film it leaves behind will inhibit the coatings ability to perform)
- what is the cost per application
- does the shampoo have good lubricity
- how does it smell
- is it readily available

Used meguiars Gold Class Shampoo and conditioner this pass weekend from the Glass class special Makro had few weeks back

must say i love it.

Regarding tyre shine, Im old school with a tin of Kiwi polish and 2 brush system always happy with the results after some albow grease is applied and last longer giving the tire a nice rich shine

Not sure if serious or just trolling :troll:

Assuming you are serious, please don't use sunlight as shampoo. It will dry out rubbers over time and every single time you wash with it, it will leave a film of surfactants on the paint (designed to prevent water spotting when washing the dishes) which will interfere with any possible hydrophobic properties of any wax/sealant/coating you have protecting your car.

Quality shampoo is cheap enough that there should be no need to ever use sunlight :bang:

Just to add in, don't be afraid of the price vs quantity. Just because a shampoo comes in 5 litres does not necessarily mean that you will get more washes out of it. A bottle of carchem luxury shampoo can last you quite a while and its only a 500ml bottle.
