Emissions garage warning

Post by lwanza »

Hi everyone, my Jetta 5 1.9tdi with 399000kms on the clock recently developed a problem,it lost power (can't go over 162km/h and there's black smoke coming out of the exhaust, took it to a vw dealership and they said my turbo needed replacing. I managed to have a new one fitted but the same problem persists, low power constant limp mode, black smoke and a vibration from the engine. This morning I unpluged the maf sensor and drove it still had the lack of power and black smoke. The check engine light did not illuminate, put the sensor back in and the car was the same, still no engine check light.went for a 80 km drive and as I was about to get home, check engine light(yellow) goes on then an emissions garage warning comes on.

not sure what the problem is,anyone with some insight please share.

Blank off the EGR pipe, the valve is stuck.open and you lose boost via the EGR pipe, reson for smoke is its over fueling as boost not enough to burn diesel properly

Do it yourself, pipe come from back and bolts to egr valve with 2 bolts, take out bolts and make blank that fits on flange, you can use coke tin can and cut with sissors, make the 2 holes for bolts and fit blank between flange and egr valve and put bolts back and you done

Every pd engine i worked with didnt have a dpf. If u block the egr u will pick up a dtc which will require a software upgrade. Get the cat removed while u at it

Euro 5 emissions regulations mandated a dpf be fitted to all diesel cars. Euro 5 came out in 2008 and all manufacturers had to be compliant by 2010
It had nothing to do with the emission scandal and that happened 18 september 2015.

I blocked mine off with no errors. Not all pd engines needs to be software tuned to block the egr.

Thanks for all the replies. I've managed to blank of the egr valve and no more limp mode.just to add more colour to the picture,my previous turbo was a garret, the new turbo is a borg warner. The only problem I have now is the turbo boost only comes in at 2500rpm (borg Warner)whereas with the garret it the boost came in much earlier. Do you perhaps have tips on how to solve that or if you can refer me to someone who can help me,I live in pretoria

Hi need help please, Emissions garage..

my polo tdi regens every 200 km and has now become slightly sluggish, although no warning lights come on. the revs move to 1000 rpm and feels like theres a "flat spot" when taking off. after driving at 80km/h in 4th for 10 minutes its back to normal, some say I should have the CAT removed and some say DPF delete.

Borg Warner and garrett is one and the same company. Thus the same make.

Ok, so it should be plug and play,do you have any clue why the boost points are different, read somewhere about adjusting the actuator

ugh Sorry had a moment there. Yeah no borg warner and garrett are quite different suppliers. They do sometimes supply turbos that pretty much cross fit except for some small differences.

Iirc theres a difference in the actuators on borg warner vs garrett.. the actuator can be adjusted to whether u want an earlier or later boost.

If u check the myturbodiesel forums, a guy made an article about it.

Re: Emissions garage warning

I recently bought a 2006 Passat 2.0tdi and would like some help

So when I start the car it has a check light which is then accompanied by a message that says “emissions garage” after driving for some time a glow plug flashing will then come on accompanied by “engine fault” message the car then goes into limp mode and sometimes starts to shake.

I’ve cleared the codes but 2 codes keep coming back

1-P0113 intake air temperature sensor 1 bank 1: circuit high
1-P0299 turbo underboost

The car does not smoke or anything
Here is what has been done to the car

1 new turbo “plug and play unit”
2 new MAF
3 new map and intake air temperature sensor
4 egr blanking plate
5 de-cat
6 “egr delete and software” but I feel Like the guy was a crook

So guys please help me car only boosts between 2600rpm and 3200rpm there about
