Hi Guys,
i bought a car with the wheels sprayed matte black with what looks like a rattle-can spray job.
the paint is already peeling off in multiple places and if you scratch the paint with your fingernail the black comes off it reveals the shiny, good condition clear coat of the OEM rim...
The condition of the spots where the paint has peeled gives me some hope that the rims can be salvaged and they don't have any scratches or curb rash on them.
the same paint was used on the front and rear vw badges and is also peeling off in certain spots.
What is the best way to get the paint off without replacing the parts or doing a full rim refurb/respray?
cheers for looking!

Re: safely cleaning rattlecan paint off rims and plastics
I was lucky once, and was able to blast off all paint using only a high pressure gun.
I think if you use any chemical strippers, you stand the risk of removing some of the oem paint as well.

Start by testing some meths on the bits where you can see the original paint. If it does not affect it dump some meths on it and let it stand.

If your nail removes it a strong pressure washer with that turny wheely thing on will do the job. Takes the oem stickers off any dirtbike without even trying!

sounds to me like it could be plastidip, not spray. if that is the case, it will actually peel off and you won't need a chemical stripper. you just need to get hold of a piece between your fingers and pull slowly/firmly.
