Injector setup fault codes

Post by JulzTDI »

Guys, i recently did a diagnostics test on the car and picked up a concerning fault, spoke to someone about it, however they said that the injectors needs to be set.

fault codes - 17675 - Valve pumpinjector, cyl 3 exceeded - intermittent
16687 - cyl 3 misfire detected - intermittent
17669 - valve pumpinjector - cyl 1 limit exceeded - intermittent

I cleared all fault codes and the car idles perfectly fine, can feel a slight miss from time to time but not continuous.

The car was starting perfectly fine when purchased but recently started taking a while to start up

Please help with someone that can perhaps set injectors if that is the problem

Thanks in advance

Either the injectors (1 and 3) are failing, or the wiring loom inside the head is failing. The wiring loom is the cheapest and easiest to fix. Maybe start with that.

Also try and log injector values. It will show the actual deviation while the car is idling.

Thanks, how would we know which is the problem (wiring or injectors)? is there any way we can get the existing injectors serviced or do we have to replace that?

its not a permanent fault as it only happens that there is a misfire from time to time, its mainly when the car is cold, once hot it runs normal no misfire or anything.

Do you have VCDS?

Plug in 1st thing in the morning. Go to group 13

Take a screenshot of these values and then let the car idle for like 8-10min and take another screenshot and post both here.

hi

I am taking the car to someone this weekend to get the diagnostics done, will get him to do this and will revert back to you guys.

Should i perhaps change the wiring loom first and check from there?

thanks for the help much appreciated

I would first do the logging. It may not be the injectors or the loom but something else...

Could be the cam timing that's off. But I guess then it wouldn't be intermittent.

When last was the cambelt done?

take the tappet cover off. I reckon your camshaft lobes are worn.

How often do you service and what oil do you use?

Hi

I just recently bought the vehicle in Dec, did a oil change when i got it with the Blue gal Shell Helix. However this problem was even before the oil change, at some times there is no misfire what so ever, no mis in cold weather either, and sometimes it does have the mis on idle, the cambelt service and a new oil change will be done this weekend as i have done about 7000kms since the last oil change.

wanted to make mention as well, noticed the alternator tension-er is squealing and over 4000rpms the battery light comes on and off from time to time, can this perhaps be the cause?

Definitely have a look at the cam lobes and lifters. Check the voltage as well when you do the diagnostics.

Regarding the alternator issue, at idle, check if the alternator belt tensioner is jumping around (it should have a slight movement but not alot).. if it is, the clutch pulley on the alternator is probably faulty hence the charge light coming on

hi i noticed on idle that tension-er thing is jumping around and squeaking, so im going to have the tension-er replaced soon. ive done the diagnostics this past weekend, and it still picks up injector faults, i looked at the values as well, he will screen shot and send to me then will upload here.

According to the diagnostic, doesn't seem like its just 1 injector but all 4... so not sure whether or not its the loom

did not get a chance this past weekend to do the service or open the tappet cover, if and when i do take the tappet cover off what should i be looking for ?

Thanks gents for all the help

Excessive wear on cam lobes. Don't think you'll be able to see damaged followers with cam in place, though I cannot confirm. These cars are know for cam wear if wrong oil had been used

Did you clear error codes to see what comes back after driving a while ?

If the tensioner is jumping around the most likely cause is a seized alternator clutch pulley. You will have to change the pulley and the tensioner(if damaged)

Unless you are very unlucky, i highly doubt all 4 injectors can pack up at the same time.. as the other guys mentioned, check injector harness and cam wear (damaged cam is easily visible), also check injector lash if adjusted incorrectly the injectors will give u high values on vcds

no 2 injector gave a higher value consistently, while the others have a higher value and as the car idled the values started to decrease

the first diagnostic in dec showed 1 and 3 injector, the other 2 was fine, this diagnostic showing no 2 injector mainly, however according to Thaveshan the other injectors are also on its way out.
