Re: My 16v build, continued
guys and gals, I have a problem....
my wastegate setup is as follows,
from the scroll, a pipe to the bottom of the wastegate
t-piece in the same boost line going to the top half of the wastegate
boost tap shut completely
only boosting 1.3bar
when I open the tap to bleed it off it boosts less
is this an indication that my turbo only boosts 1.3...MAX?
will it help if I swop the pipes around and let the pipe from the scroll go to the top and the boost tap to the bottom?

Easy test, block off the pipe from the scroll and let the wastegate only get atmospheric pressure. The downside is that if you do boost more you may blow your motor before you can tap off.

Few pages back on your thread, this was suggested.PapaJo wrote:Let me understand this now, this picture is your boost controller. And then you want to connect it in a similar way as this drawing I posted before, where you would substitute the solenoid in the picture below with the thingy in your picture. You can try that, not sure if it will work though and the small opening from your adjustment will cause a differential pressure for a short while and the equalize the pressure on both sides of the diaphragm. You will then not vent any pressure off from the top port of the waste gate.ob wan wrote:
Alternatively leave the top port open and substitute the thingy in the place of the solenoid and close it fully. That way it will work the same as a pressure from the scroll direct to the bottom port of the waste gate and operate on the spring rated pressure only to open the waste gate. then you start turning the adjustment screw out 1 turn at a time and note the boost reading on a boost gauge. The greater opening on the adjustment screw to open the port on the thingy will give lesser pressure going to the waste gate bottom port and result in higher boost before opening. Not sure what is the internal port size and needle hole size on this thingy as this could also be causing you the headache of no boost as it cannot bleed of enough pressure. in that case you may need to fit the recommended 0,75 mm restrictor in the line before the t-piece feeding the waste gate bottom port and other port to the thingy.
If you are using a chinese turbo, you might be at max boost it can produce with your measured 1,3 bar boost with you mbc fully closed. Mrturbo advertised turbos in the T3 range a year or two back that has a maximum boost of 1 - 1,1 bar boost. Afaik going higher let the turbine wheel disintegrate. Best would be to check with the place you bought the turbo from to confirm maximum safe boost pressure and designed maximum boost pressure for the turbo you have.

Is the mbc before the t-piece or on the pipe going to the bottom port or above the t-piece on the pipe going to the top port?ob wan wrote:guys and gals, I have a problem....

Re: My 16v build, continued
Mbc should go to botton port and top port vented. Your turbo is now maxed out at 1,3bar.ob wan wrote:disconnected the tube going into the bottom, top one now has mbc, boosts 1.3bar no problems....
Is your waste push open from top port or bottom port??
If it is push open from bottom port, you have no mbc control and uses the maximum boost that the turbo can boost as you are connected at the top port to keep waste gate closed.
Please clarify whether top or bottom port is opening waste gate.

Re: My 16v build, continued
i presume it pushes open from the bottom, everything is now disconnected so it's just the spring that keeps the valve closed, I can hear it push exhaust gases out from the port so the wastegate still performs as it should, just without boost assistance...
and I'm loving it!!!!

Better traction as mentioned.ob wan wrote:anyone here running a lsd?

Downside:
pricey mod, but worthwhile if you want to race the whole time.
diff holds and then you start breaking other parts like gearbox gears or side shafts. All depending on the amount of abuse you do to it.

Why dont you maybe speak to Oom Poy(0823318848), Sarel from 8v Performance's dad.
He is a gearbox guru. He can fit better diff bolts, and do custom ratios. My Poy gearbox I bought from him, spins both wheels off the line.
The diff bolts are really the weak point.

Bolts are not the weak point. The crown wheel is riveted onto the diff housing and those shear with high torque.DotDubb wrote:Why dont you maybe speak to Oom Poy(0823318848), Sarel from 8v Performance's dad.
