Polo vivo EPC fault light
Hi guys,
I have a 2010 Polo vivo 1.4 63kw, I have started experiencing an issue when the vehicle has come to a stop with engine idling (usually at a traffic light or stop street) the EPC fault light comes on. The engine idle becomes rough & increases to about 1200rpm, there is also no response to the accelerator pedal at this time. I have to switch the car off & restart to pull off from the stop. There is no sign of the problem after this action.
The problem is sporadic & doesn't occur at every stop of the vehicle. Prior to this problem I noticed unusual engine response to the accelerator pedal on low revs(in neutral while idling, stationery position) , slow response to react to the pedal & slow return to idle rev mark, sounds like the accelerator is being let of progressively when in fact it has been released completely.
Hoping someone can help me identify the problem

Re: Polo vivo EPC fault light
Issue with the throttle body.
Either the plug has abad connection or it is dying.
First get some contact cleaner and spray the plug. Make sure not teh break the lock tab when you pull it off.

Panic, do you mean " not to break the lock tab"panic-mechanic wrote: Make sure not teh break the lock tab when you pull it off.
Does this mean the plug is not connected properly in that it has intermittent connection?
or
It is corroded with foreign particles
Is it worth cleaning the TB as well?

Re: Polo vivo EPC fault light
The plugs have an interference fit lock tab that prevents it from detaching, so you have to unclip the interference bit to remove. If this makes sense.

Re: Polo vivo EPC fault light
Yes do not break off the securing clip. It is one of my pet hates as seemingly nobody can undo one of those plugs without breaking the clip off. Once that has happened the plug is never secure again.
The trick it to firts push the plug in, then push on the tab and then pull.

Re: Polo vivo EPC fault light
I actually use a different way by using a pick with a 90 degree bend it it and lifting the little locking tab inside fron the open side of the plug. That way guaranteed no breakage but the push first squeeze tab then pull method works fine if you don't have picks.

Re: Polo vivo EPC fault light
it is the item on the end of the intake manifold where it meets up with the pipe form the aircleaner. That is where the trhrottel butterlfy sits. Plug is on there.

Re: Polo vivo EPC fault light
Hi,
Got a chance to work on the car yesterday, found a bit of grease in the throttle body around the butterfly which I cleaned up. No visible dust or contaminants on the sensor plug, I cleaned out thoroughly with contact cleaner.
After reassembly there was a noticeable difference, throttle was sharp & responsive, EPC fault did not come up during test drive. Was so pleased with myself & chuffed that this is issue is finally fixed until using the car a little later.
Same exact symptoms & fault has returned. I've attached pictures of the throttle & plug a removed to confirm what I've done is correct.
Please advise further what I can do?

Re: Polo vivo EPC fault light
Yes correct. Also have a look at the pins side of the electrical plug. And really try to get electrical contact cleaner, spray both sides and see how it goes.

Re: Polo vivo EPC fault light
it is overfuelling for some reason. You have to scan it first to see if there is an isseu with a sensor. Tehn test things like fuel pressure, etc. usually easier to do that on a dyno and see what it fuels like

Hi, I'm also experiencing the same problem with my 2011 Polo Vivo with an error Accelerator pedal position sensor 2 low input on diagnostic. I'm thinking of replacing Accelerator Pedal to see if it will solve the problem.
