Hi Guys,
I was driving my 1.9tdi today and she lost boost after changing from 2nd to 3rd.
At about 4000rpm, I felt a slight jerk and all boost was lost.
Drove it home and plugged in an OBD2 reader and got the following fault code
"P0234 Turbocharger overboost condition"
After about an hour, I started it and the boost seems to be fine. I didn't want to push her too much thinking something g might break.
I've read up the fault code and points to a wastegate problem.
Before buying a new part, is there anyway to check the exact cause?

Sticky VNT actuator or veins seams to be the two common culprits that cause that. Clear the code and drive it some more, if it starts to happen more often then worth getting your hands dirty over

Any suggestions on where I can get replacement parts if needed.
I was thinking of changing the turbo to the cupra spec. Been told that I would need to change the cooler and all boost pipes. Anyone know what else needs to be changed?

before going banana's on it. thats the overboost error. meaning the turbo vanes are open too long. so...
1. check the air supply line to the turbo from the vacuum box for any holes, any breaks etc.
2.listen for any abnormal noises from the vacuum box- like buzzing or hissing. it could be going...
Here was my dilemma... my vacuum airbox was going and never actuated the turbo vanes properly giving me the error. replaced the box and walla. error solved. check my post with a video link on my old car.
2. take a piece of wire, form a hook and use it to pull the arm on the turbo down. it should be hard to move, but should move freely. it could be clogged up with soot. a good old Italian tune up might help- but wont solve the problem. there are some diy's on oven cleaner and a plastic tube down the egr- that will help as well. but generally the whole intake system must come off and get chemically cleaned. especially after 150 000km or so.
